Under The Silver Lake (R) 2018 ‧ Drama/Thriller - Review

Under the Silver Lake is a film written and directed by David Robert Mitchell and stars, Andrew Garfield, Riley Keough, Topher Grace.
Sam, a disenchanted young man, finds a mysterious woman swimming in his apartment's pool one night. The next morning, she disappears. Sam sets off across LA to find her, and along the way he uncovers a conspiracy far more bizarre. I went into this one blind, without even reading the logline. It started like a normal movie about a guy who has a crush on a girl but as things begin to get a little more complicated you realize that Sam ( Andrew Garfield ) is the type of guy that takes no shit. He is both sweet but very brutal and i wasn't expecting it ( no spoilers ) - He delivers a fantastic performance and even pays homage to his prior role as The Amazing Spiderman. The thing i loved the most about this movie (aside from the brutality) is the score. It was more like a classic film score from a film in the 60s which was composed by 'Disasterpeace' who also composed the score for 'IT FOLLOWS' which David Robert Mitchell also wrote and directed. A24 has been consistently pumping out great content with its own style. This film was no exception it was great from beginning to end. The women are beautiful and very sensual which always makes for a fun movie when you combine it with the mystery and violence of this story. It did make me smile when they started to make fun of the pretentious Hollywood types at times, only very briefly, but you know those people actually exist. - The director, David Robert Mitchell definitely hits a home run with this. Check it out tonight - its on amazon prime. Highly recommend.
